FLENTYE Mrs. Alice R. Flentye, 84, wid p"' of the late William H. Flentye, Chicago, passed away Tuesday ^Ight at 6:15 at the home of her daughter, Miss Mae Irene Flentye, after an illness of several months. There will be no funeral ser vice in Tryon and it is requested that flowers be omitted. The body will be sent this week-end to Chicago for funeral services and cremation. The deceased is survived by one sister, Mrs. Anna Henderson of Homewood, 111., one son, Wm. H. Flentye, of Aurora, 111., two daughters, Mrs. H. J. Farnham, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Asheville, and Miss Mae Irene Flentye of Tryon; also several grandchildren including Miss Ruth Ross of Asheville, Captain Wil liam H. Flentye, Jr., now in the service; Miss Barbara Flentye of Duke University and Miss Phoebe J»ptye of Aurora. rs. Flentye first came to Try on in 1917 with her daughter on a visit and made annual trips here until about 1930, when she made her permanent home with Miss Flentye. She was a member of the Christian Science church and was actively interested in its affairs. She will be given a Christian Science funeral in Chicago. H. F. Bean, pastor of the Columbus and Mill Spring Bap tist churches, has accepted a call to the Welsh Neck Baptist church in South Carolina, effective on August 29th. The South Carolina church is eager for Mr. Bean to assume his new duties at an early date, but Mr. Bean announced to his con gregation Sunday morning that he was uwilling to leave his pres ent field until he had fulfilled his contract with the Columbus and Mill Spring church. He informed the local churches early in order to give them ample time to secure another pastor. The Welsh Neck church which is the second oldest in South Carolina, having been founded in 1738, has an enroll ment of 225 members. It will be served by supply ministers until Mr. Bean can assume the pastor ate. Mr. Bean came to the Polk coun ty churches from Columbus coun ty last August. He states that he is reluctant to leave the people here and this section of North Carolina, but feels that duty calls him to the new church. Mrs. Bean, who is a registered nurse, has been on duty as a private nurse at St. Luke’s hos pital.
